about

Creating, designing and drawing as a child, I followed my dream by joining the Wellington Art Society in 1975, where I painted and exhibited. The New Zealand painters of influence for me were, Hotere, McCahon, Gimblett and Parker and I drew inspiration from the land and seascapes of Aotearoa.
As a third generation painter growing up in a small seaside town and a decade of living experiences in each of New Zealand’s three main cities Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch I gained a rich understanding of ‘place’ and its varied implications. When living in the U.K. I took the opportunity to study, paint and write a thesis on Developing Aesthetics.

Art, a strong focus for me, has been explored through my travels, both locally and internationally, via the galleries of the countries and places I am in. The priority of painting was a natural progression from my career as an Interior designer, bringing those principles and disciplines into my art work.

The development of my work in returning to the simplicity of drawing, (a traditional skill) of ink on paper, has been a progression forward in which to transcribe ‘place,’ unpack emotional intelligence and memories. The drawings are developed through the processes that take place in the studio, which intrinsically connect and link outer and inner worlds, drawing from both perspectives. My current works explore the concept and interpretation of the notion of the inner self, drawing on epseity – essence, the stuff within us…our core, which I believe, makes up who we are…
