paintings

Growing up surrounded by my grandfathers rich oil paintings and understanding the history of painting within the family, it was unsurprising I inherited a desire to make art.

I have been painting on and off since the birth of my first child, where I joined Wellington Art Society in 1975 painting and exhibiting with them.

Painting realism in oils, I drew my inspiration from the land and seascapes of New Zealand, and I am influenced by the works of Hotere, McCahon, Gimblett & John Parker alongside other NZ Painters.

The development from realism to abstraction came through experimentation and practice with a tutored painting group, plus a share in a Studio Gallery in Devonport, both of which led to undertaking my Masters degree.

My studio practice and study of place, culminated in my current ink drawing practice.
