awa – river

The awa – rivers are ever present in our island nation of Aotearoa.

As a child I was fortunate to live, swim and camp in an area embracing both braided rivers and deep rivers with strong currents and swift flowing waters, which influence me deeply.

Rivers bend and flow moving continuously through the whenua, our land. Starting intentionally and slowly feeling its way, the mark leads me though each developing moment, guiding my hand as the work flows into being – water abstracted, a beginning, a breathing, a becoming.
